A pedestrian died following a collision on Le Ressouvenir Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD), late Friday night.
The incident occurred around 23:45 hours and involved a motor car, a motorcycle, and a pedestrian. The deceased, 71-year-old Ramroop Sadaram, a pensioner of Lot 273 Success Housing Scheme, was struck in the accident.
Reports revealed that the car was travelling eastward along the northern driving lane when the driver reportedly heard the loud sound of a motorcycle approaching from behind. Upon checking his wing mirror, the driver felt a sudden impact on both the front and rear of his vehicle.
The driver immediately stopped and discovered the pedestrian lying injured on the road, alongside the motorcyclist, who also sustained injuries.
Emergency Medical Technicians were promptly summoned to the scene. The pedestrian was pronounced dead on arrival, while the motorcyclist was conscious and transported to Georgetown Public Hospital, where he is receiving medical treatment.
The driver remains in police custody and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation. A breathalyser test administered to the driver showed readings of .017% and .019%.
