A 37-year-old man from Plaisance, East Coast Demerara (ECD), was recently granted $80,000 bail after being charged with six offences stemming from a public outburst at Stabroek Square in the capital city of Georgetown.

Kenan Letlow appeared before Senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, where he faced charges of assaulting two police officers, abusing a woman, using threatening language, disorderly behaviour, and resisting arrest.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred on June 13, 2025, at Cornhill Street, Georgetown. Letlow pleaded not guilty to five of the six charges, including assaulting Rihanna Duncan, assaulting Police Constables Burnett and Ifill, resisting arrest, and using threatening language.

He claimed he was the victim in the confrontation, telling the court he had been handcuffed and tased.

However, he admitted to behaving in a disorderly manner in public and was fined $10,000 or sentenced to two weeks in prison.

When questioned about his relationship with Duncan, Letlow said she was not his partner but someone he knew through his girlfriend. Duncan was present in court and expressed interest in pursuing the matter.

Despite objections from the prosecutor, who cited Letlow’s alleged history of abusive behaviour, bail was granted: $10,000 for the threatening language charge and $15,000 each for the remaining four contested charges.

Letlow told the court he works at Stabroek Market and has five children. The case was adjourned to June 25, 2025, for the disclosure of evidence.
