Joint operations by the Guyana Police Force’s Narcotics Branch and Regional Division 6 on Sunday led to the destruction of more than $409 million worth of cannabis and the seizure of two unlicensed shotguns with ammunition during two separate eradication exercises.

The first raid, conducted at Zion, Upper Berbice River, uncovered a two-acre plot prepared for cultivation, along with a 30×20 ft makeshift camp containing a living area, kitchen, drying section, and approximately 350 lbs of dried cannabis valued at $142.8 million. Both the camp and the narcotics were destroyed by fire.

Later that morning, between 05:00 hrs and 10:20 hrs, ranks targeted another two-acre plot at Kalkuni, Upper Berbice River, where they discovered 3,000 cannabis plants measuring between two and seven feet, a drying area, and a second 30×20 ft camp. Inside, police found 650 lbs of dried cannabis along with two unlicensed 12-gauge shotguns and 19 cartridges. The firearms were seized for ballistic testing, while the camp, dried cannabis, and plants—valued at $266.3 million—were destroyed.

The combined operations resulted in the destruction of $409,249,200 worth of narcotics. Police reported that both exercises were completed without incident as investigations continue.
