Police have launched an investigation into reports that several tombs at the Madia Cemetery, Corentyne, were disturbed during recent construction works in the area. The incident has sparked outrage among villagers and grieving families, who are demanding accountability from both the contractor and local authorities.

According to reports, the excavation was carried out by a Chinese contractor, who admitted to the error and agreed to repair the damaged tombs. However, relatives of Vishram Nagasar—who was buried in July 2018—say the restoration was incomplete and that some contents were omitted. The family further alleged that they were informed by the contractor that a financial settlement had been made with someone claiming to be a relative.

The revelations have fueled anger in the community, with residents describing the act as both disrespectful and deceptive. Many are now calling for clarity and justice to prevent such incidents from being repeated.

The police have since been notified, and investigations into the matter are ongoing.
