Police are investigating a shooting incident that occurred late Sunday night at a residence in South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, where a gold miner and his family were startled by gunfire that damaged their home.

According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the incident occurred around 23:30 hours at Lot 567 Toucan Drive. The homeowner, 34-year-old Rickford Horilall, a gold miner, told investigators that he had returned from the interior earlier that day and was asleep with his reputed wife when they were awakened by two loud explosions, which he suspected were gunshots.

Horilall said he discovered a broken glass window in the bedroom and found two metal fragments on the floor, believed to be part of discharged ammunition. He immediately looked outside but did not observe anyone in the vicinity.

Police ranks responded to the scene and processed the area, recovering the two metal fragments from the bedroom floor. Despite questioning persons in the area, investigators have so far been unable to obtain any useful leads.

No injuries were reported; however, the investigation is ongoing.
