The Guyana Police Force (GPF) has launched an investigation into a suspected grenade attack on the East Ruimveldt Police Outpost early Saturday morning.
The incident occurred around 12:40h, when an explosive device believed to be a grenade was reportedly hurled at the outpost, located at the junction of Vlissengen Square and East Front Road.
According to police sources, a lone female officer was on duty at the time and was alerted by a loud explosion emanating from the southern side of the compound.

Upon inspection, she discovered that the southern gate had been blown off. The gate was later found approximately six feet away from its original position.
An alarm was raised, and investigators arrived on the scene around 12:50h. While no fragments of the actual explosive were recovered, other metal fragments were discovered in the area. Several nearby residents reported hearing the fragments hitting their roofs.
CCTV footage from the vicinity has been obtained and is currently under review. Police have also questioned a number of persons in the area as part of their ongoing investigations.
