At his last press conference before the general elections, Vice President and General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C), Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, expressed confidence that his party will secure a “handsome majority” in the September 1 elections, reiterating that the party’s track record speaks for itself.
Dr. Jagdeo said his position is not based on arrogance but on results. He highlighted the government’s work in turning the economy around, incentivising key sectors like gold, sugar, rice, and hospitality, reducing tax burdens, and ensuring that the benefits of economic growth reach the people. These benefits include increased scholarships and higher old-age pensions.
He added that the PPP/C’s capable and experienced leadership makes it the safest choice to manage Guyana’s economy and navigate challenges such as the lowering of oil prices and the Venezuela border controversy, etc.
