President Dr Irfaan Ali has announced that Guyana is entering a decisive phase of national development, driven by disciplined management of its rapidly growing oil sector and the rollout of a transformative economic strategy.
Addressing private-sector leaders, diplomats, policymakers, and industry executives on Friday evening at the Guyana Oil and Gas Energy Chamber’s Annual Awards Presentation Dinner, he revealed that a comprehensive expansion and infrastructure blueprint will soon be unveiled.
“This journey that we are on is now getting fired up,” the President declared, noting that Guyana is poised for far-reaching growth shaped by responsibility and meticulous planning.
He told the gathering that “in the coming days, I will reveal with great clarity the economic expansion, infrastructure integration and development projections for our country over the next five years.”
Positioned as a defining national roadmap, the strategy comes at a time when Guyana is experiencing unprecedented investment across its energy, logistics, and industrial sectors.
Dr Ali identified Wales and Berbice as the centrepieces of this new phase—areas he said will anchor an integrated national energy ecosystem.
At Wales, on the West Bank of Demerara, more than US$4 billion is expected in project investments, from the gas-to-energy initiative to manufacturing zones, marine infrastructure, and power-generation facilities.
In the county of Berbice, plans include a second gas project, expanded industrial operations, a deep-water port, and a gas pipeline valued at over US$2 billion.
Combined, he said, the developments will approach “close to US$10 billion,” adding: “That is remarkable by any standard. If that can’t excite you and excite us as a people, I don’t know what will.”
The President also pointed to rising production, expected to reach roughly 930,000 barrels per day this year and a projected 1.3 million barrels per day by 2030.
Even so, he urged prudence, warning that global conditions require Guyana to stay “disciplined, prudent and clear-eyed.”
The forthcoming national plan, coupled with escalating energy output, marks what the President describes as a pivotal moment in steering Guyana’s development trajectory.
