President Dr. Irfaan Ali has announced September 01, 2025, as the Regional and General Elections date.
Speaking to a large crowd at the Albion Sports Ground for the Flag Raising Ceremony marking Guyana’s 59th Independence Anniversary, the Head of State revealed that he had a discussion with the Chairwoman of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), who assured him of the Commission’s readiness to conduct the polls.
“Soon I will issue the proclamation to dissolve Parliament,” the Guyanese Leader posited, which was met with loud applause.
The March 2020 General and Regional Elections were embroiled in controversy following attempts by the then APNU/AFC Administration to rig the elections to stay in power.
The People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) was sworn into office five months after the March 2, 2020, polls.
