President Irfaan Ali on Monday said Guyana remains in solidarity with the people of Venezuela as the situation in the neighbouring country continues to unfold, while assuring citizens that the government is closely monitoring developments along Guyana’s western frontier.

Speaking publicly on the issue, President Ali acknowledged concerns raised by Guyanese, noting that such concerns are understandable given the uncertainty surrounding recent events in Venezuela. He stressed, however, that Guyana’s position remains firm and guided by respect for the rule of law, regional stability, and the protection of families and communities.

“The situation in Venezuela remains uncertain and fluid,” the President said, adding that this uncertainty demands calm, vigilance, and adherence to lawful processes. He emphasised that Guyana does not support lawlessness or actions that place civilians at risk, whether within borders or across the region.

President Ali also made it clear that Guyana rejects criminal behaviour and violence, noting that such actions destroy families and undermine societies. He said there is no place for lawlessness in Guyana or the wider region. He urged those involved in criminal activity to reconsider their actions and respect the rights and safety of ordinary people.

His comments come amid heightened regional attention following recent actions by United States President Donald Trump, whose administration has confirmed decisive measures against the Venezuelan leadership. Those developments have added to uncertainty across the Caribbean and South America, prompting regional governments to assess security, humanitarian, and diplomatic implications.

President Ali stated that Guyana continues to engage with international partners while maintaining a principled position grounded in international law. He reassured citizens that the government remains alert and prepared, particularly along the western border, while prioritising peace and the protection of Guyanese families.

“We remain in solidarity with the people of Venezuela,” the President said, while underscoring that Guyana’s primary responsibility is safeguarding its sovereignty, national security, and social stability.

He urged citizens to remain calm, informed, and united as developments continue, stressing that the government will keep the public updated as necessary.
