In a Mother’s Day address to the nation, President Dr. Irfaan Ali has praised the profound role of mothers across Guyana and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to improving their lives and securing brighter futures for their families.

Describing motherhood as “the noblest title on earth,” President Ali opened his address by celebrating the quiet strength, daily sacrifices, and unwavering love that define a mother’s role in the home and in society.

“Today, as the sun rises over the coastline, rivers, savannas, and hinterland of our beloved Guyana, we pause to honour the noblest title on earth—mother,” the President said. “Yours is a love like no other, unconditional, unflinching, unending… a love that sees beyond flaws, forgives before being asked, and believes even when the world doubts.”

President Ali also took time to acknowledge mothers in all walks of life—those nurturing newborns, supporting school-age children, praying for grown sons and daughters, and those carrying the painful burden of loss.

“We see you, we honour you, and we stand with you,” he said. “Your pain is not invisible, nor is your strength unnoticed. Your loss is deeply felt, and your courage… is a profound statement to the depth of a mother’s love.” Turning to his government’s role in empowering mothers and families, the Head of State made a firm pledge: to continue building a Guyana where mothers and their children have the tools, support, and opportunity to thrive.

“On this Mother’s Day, I want to assure every mother that my government will continue in the future to support you, your children, and your aspirations,” he declared.

“Everything that you wanted for yourself but may not have been able to afford… with the support of my government, you will be able to give your children—and you yourself will be able to live—a quality of life that we in this government can support.”

He outlined a suite of ongoing and future initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for women and families, including free university education, the establishment of a new maternal and women’s hospital, upgraded health clinics.

“These things will continue to expand,” he said, “to ensure that our mothers live a life that is befitting of the love, commitment, and selflessness they give to every child and to our nation on a daily basis.”

In his closing remarks, President Ali urged all Guyanese to honour their mothers not just on Mother’s Day but every day with love, gratitude, and reverence.

“To all children, celebrate your mothers. Speak love while they can still hear. Give thanks while they’re still near. And for those whose mothers now rest in eternal peace, let your lives be a living tribute to their memory.”

The President ended by extending blessings on behalf of himself and First Lady Arya Ali. “To all mothers of Guyana, we honour you, we thank you, we bless you. May your love continue to guide us, may your strength continue to build us, and may your legacy live forever in the hearts of your children.”
