The Private Sector Commission (PSC) has held discussions with representatives of Citi on expanding access to financing and foreign exchange solutions for Guyanese businesses, as the international bank prepares to establish a representative office here.
According to the PSC, the engagement explored how Citi’s global network and expertise could support investment and project financing in Guyana, particularly in infrastructure, construction, agriculture, housing, hospitality and tourism.
During the meeting, the Commission highlighted the growing demand among local businesses for financing and access to foreign exchange.
The PSC also raised the issue of smaller local projects which may not individually meet international financing requirements, noting that businesses could potentially form consortiums and combine projects to access larger-scale financing.
Citi, meanwhile, expressed an interest in gaining a better understanding of the Guyanese market and identifying areas where its international network could support businesses and investment.
The two sides agreed to continue engagements as Citi expands its presence in Guyana and explores opportunities to work with the local private sector.
