Focus on tax relief, incentives, migrant workforce support and local content expansion

Head of the Private Sector Commission (PSC), Gerald Gouveia Jr., says the organisation is currently compiling its recommendations for the 2026 National Budget, following wide-ranging consultations with business bodies across the country.

He explained that, as is customary each year, the private sector is invited to present its proposals to government, and the PSC is now in the process of finalising its submission. This includes input from Business Support Organisations, regional chambers, and corporate members to ensure the list of recommendations is comprehensive and supported by evidence.

According to Gouveia, the proposals will cover several major areas. Among them are tax reductions in business operations, incentives for the wider business community, and measures examining the promotion of migrant workers in Guyana. He noted that the list also includes recommendations geared toward further expanding local content participation.

“It’s a quite comprehensive and long list, but those are the general areas that we’re focusing on,” Gouveia said.

He added that the PSC has found government to be receptive to its submissions. At the last budget, he said, a number of the Commission’s recommendations were included, and the PSC expects similar consideration for Budget 2026.

Gouveia reiterated that the promotion of migrant workers will also feature in the PSC’s recommendations as part of its broader push to support economic growth and address emerging labour needs.
