The People’s Youth Organisation (PYO) officially launched its Tapeball Cricket Tournament on Sunday, May 12, 2025, with a strong focus on youth involvement and community unity. The tournament will feature 21 teams from across Region Two, each required to include at least two Under-19 players per match—a move designed to give young cricketers a chance to shine on a competitive stage.

The launch event was attended by several notable figures, including Regional Vice Chairman Humace Oudit, PYO Head Faraz Baksh, Regional Sports Organizer Wazeeda Bacchus, and Tournament Organizer Azizi Christiani, who also leads the PYO Sports Committee.

In his address, Vice Chairman Oudit praised the tournament as a symbol of togetherness. “This competition encourages healthy rivalry, strengthens community ties, and supports the vision of ‘One Guyana’—where every individual plays a vital role,” he said.

Tournament Organizer Christiani highlighted the structure and excitement of the upcoming matches. “We expect a high level of competition this year. It’s about giving young talent a platform and fostering unity through sport,” he noted. He also thanked title sponsor Harischan Ramballi for his support and acknowledged the continued contribution of the Director General of the Ministry of Agriculture to youth-focused initiatives in the region.

The tournament officially kicks off on Saturday, May 17, with matches continuing on May 18 and May 24.
