Residents and commuters travelling between Mahdia and Campbelltown are set to benefiting from significant improvements to a key access road, as Region Eight’s newly procured motor grader commenced its maiden operation to rehabilitate the roadway.
Regional Executive Officer Marti DeSouza said the works fulfil a commitment he made to residents just two months ago after concerns were raised about the deteriorated condition of the road, particularly during the rainy season. The rehabilitation involves grading the surface and reshaping the roadway to eliminate potholes and improve accessibility.
DeSouza noted that the project marks the beginning of a broader effort to improve access roads across Region Eight, with additional communities expected to benefit through funding provided by Central Government for the maintenance of community roads and bridges.
The REO urged motorists to exercise caution as the dry season approaches. He appealed to drivers to reduce their speed and be mindful of residents and businesses located along the route, noting that the improved surface may generate dust and that consideration for those living nearby remains important.
