The People’s Progressive Party (PPP/C) Regional Councillors for Region Five have condemned the recent protests in the area, during which residents demanded justice for Adriana Younge.

According to reports, several weeks ago, residents blocked roads at various locations in Region Five, including Belladrum and Hopetown. They set fire to debris and caused damage to properties.

During the Region Five Regional Democratic Council’s monthly statutory meeting on Thursday, former Regional Chairman Bindrabhan Bisnauth remarked that the protests did not truly support anyone.

“They were organised to loot and destroy,” he stated. Bisnauth praised the police officers who worked diligently to manage the situation, noting, “No innocent individuals were arrested and locked up.”

Regional Chairman Vickchand Ramphal echoed similar sentiments, explaining that the protests were organised activities not intended to show solidarity with Younge’s family but for personal gain.

“Looting, stopping vehicles, and demanding money from drivers to traverse the road. We highly condemn such behaviour,” he revealed.

Multiple individuals have been arrested and charged with terrorism across the country.
