The Schools’ Welfare Unit of the Region Five Department of Education hosted its annual Mother’s Forum on Thursday at the Immanuel Congregational Multipurpose Hall in Hopetown Village, West Coast Berbice, under the theme “Creating a Million Ways to Be a Good Mother in a World Where You Can’t Be Perfect.”
The event brought together mothers, many of whom are single parents, for a day of empowerment and appreciation.

Regional Education Officer Selestine Bristol-LaRose emphasised the importance of recognizing the efforts of mothers.
“I just want you to take a special moment as we recognize and celebrate the amazing women in our lives. Whether you’re a single mother, grandmother, or guardian – there are persons who care about you,” she said.
Deputy Chief Education Officer Fazia Baksh delivered the feature address, encouraging women to value themselves and establish healthy boundaries in future relationships.
“You’re calling the shots. Focus on building a connection based on mutual respect, understanding, and genuine care. A healthy relationship should enhance your life and the lives of your children—not add stress or complaints. Don’t feel pressured to rush into anything. Take your time, trust your instincts, and prioritize your happiness and the security of your family,” she advised.
The forum concluded with a celebration in which mothers received special tokens of appreciation, highlighting their resilience and strength in raising children under challenging circumstances.
