Region Two RDC warns delinquent contractors of sanctions

Contractors who continue to fall behind on projects in Region Two could face penalties, removal from approved contractor lists and possible reporting to government agencies, according to Regional Executive Officer (REO) Deolall Rooplall.

The warning came during a recent meeting between regional officials and contractors whose projects remain significantly behind schedule. The engagement, held in the RDC boardroom, was also attended by Deputy Regional Executive Officer Omesh Sasenaryan and senior engineering officers.

Rooplall said the Regional Democratic Council is concerned about ongoing delays affecting the delivery of development works across the region and stressed the importance of contractors keeping the RDC informed whenever challenges arise that could impact project timelines.

According to the REO, 24 contractors are currently behind schedule and will receive formal correspondence regarding their performance.

He noted that the RDC intends to pursue liquidated damages against contractors who fail to complete projects within the contractual timeframe.

Additionally, contractors who are in default and have not maintained communication with the RDC regarding delays could be reported to the relevant ministries and agencies.

The REO further indicated that contractors with poor performance records risk being removed from the RDC’s approved contractors’ list, which could prevent them from securing future contracts with the council.

The measures, he said, are intended to strengthen accountability, improve the delivery of public projects and ensure taxpayers receive value from regional investments.
