The Guyana Police Force (GPF) in a statement on Wednesday said that the fatal shooting of Rondell Clarke on Sunday at Foulis, East Coast Demerara (ECD), was caused by a round discharged from an AR rifle held by security officer Messiah Mussendeen.

The police reported that a damaged metal fragment was recovered from Clarke’s body during a post-mortem examination. The fragment was sent to the Criminal Investigations Department’s Crime Laboratory for ballistic analysis.

Following a thorough investigation, ballistic experts determined that the metal fragment matched an AR rifle in Mussendeen’s possession. The investigation further established that a 9mm spent shell casing recovered from the scene was linked to a 9mm pistol held by another Force Security Solutions guard, Devon Boucher.

Clarke, a 29-year-old construction worker of Lot 413 Foulis, was fatally shot at about 19:30 and 19:45 hours.

Police had said that he was found in a conscious state after he was shot at Second Street, Foulis, and was quickly transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital for medical attention.

Upon arrival, he was admitted to the critical surgical bay, but despite efforts to save him, Clarke was pronounced dead at approximately 20:20 hours the same evening.

The family had disputed the police’s version of events that occurred on the night and had called for a thorough investigation.
