Former Ministry of Home Affairs employee Andika Ferrier was on Monday charged with assault causing bodily harm over the alleged assault of a female attendant at the Rubis gas station at Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara.
Ferrier, 43, was granted $100,000 bail when he appeared in Friendship Magistrates’ Courts.
As part of his bail conditions, he was ordered to report to a police station and stay away from the complainant.
The matter has been adjourned to October 26, 2026.
Ferrier, who was a Community Policing Liaison Officer with the Ministry of Home Affairs, was sacked from his position following the incident.
The alleged assault involved Rubis employee Ashley Romacindo and reportedly stemmed from a dispute over the loading of cooking-gas cylinders onto Ferrier’s Canter truck.
Romacindo had reportedly declined to assist Ferrier with loading the cylinders, after which a confrontation developed.
Closed-circuit television footage from the station reportedly captured Ferrier approaching Romacindo from behind and striking her, causing her to fall.
The incident subsequently attracted widespread public attention after footage circulated on social media.
Romacindo reported the matter to police and sought medical attention following the alleged assault.
Ferrier was arrested and initially released on station bail pending prosecution.
His dismissal had previously been confirmed by Minister of Home Affairs Oneidge Walrond, who said Ferrier would face criminal proceedings.
