Sanctioned businessman Azruddin Mohamed has named his political party ‘We Invest In Nationhood.’
Mohamed, who announced last month that he would be joining Guyana’s upcoming presidential race, did not provide a name for the party.
However, former Alliance For Change (AFC) member, Charles Sugrim, who has been accompanying Mohamed during visits to various communities, revealed the party name on Thursday after a meeting with the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM).
Azruddin, his father, Nazar Mohamed, and their business are also subject to sanctions imposed by the United States of America (USA), stemming from what the U.S. Department of the Treasury described as their “roles in public corruption in Guyana.”
The corruption, according to the U.S. Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), includes tax evasion and gold smuggling.
All commercial banks and other institutions have since severed ties with the Mohameds.
