SBB training helping small businesses grow, entrepreneurs say

Small business owners are crediting training provided by the Small Business Bureau (SBB) with helping them improve their operations, strengthen financial management and better market their products.

Several entrepreneurs told the Department of Public Information (DPI) that the bureau’s programmes have equipped them with practical skills in areas such as digital marketing, branding, record-keeping and business management, allowing them to grow their businesses with greater confidence.

Business owner Shamain Sanasiah said the training gave her the knowledge to develop her own brand identity, including designing logos, while also providing access to processing facilities and opportunities to showcase her products.

Falana Fraser said the sessions on business management and record-keeping have transformed the way she manages her finances, making it easier to maintain proper records and improve her business when seeking support from financial institutions.

Meanwhile, Waheeda Jaikaran said the SBB has played an important role in expanding her business since she joined the programme in 2021. She noted that digital marketing training enabled her to create promotional material, manage her own advertising and make better use of social media to reach customers, while also boosting her confidence.

Owner of Natural Glow Organic Skincare, Cindy Hall, also praised the initiative, saying the financial management training helped her keep track of sales, expenses and profits, giving her a clearer understanding of her business performance.

The Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, through the Small Business Bureau, continues to assist micro and small enterprises by offering training, technical support and opportunities to access new markets.

Further support for the sector is also expected with the establishment of the Guyana Development Bank, which is intended to improve financing opportunities for small businesses across the country.
