Six people are now facing uncertainty after a fire ravaged their home in East Canje on Tuesday afternoon.

The three-bedroom wooden and concrete house at Lot 61, East Canefield, was home to Imran Khan, his wife, and their four children, aged 8, 11, 16, and 20.

Both Khan and his wife are employed at Rose Sugar Estate in different roles. He told reporters that around 14:30 hours, he left the house to pick up his wife from work, taking their eight and 11-year-old children with him. After collecting her, they headed to Corentyne to purchase a phone.

Khan said that two of his children remained at home. They were on the lower level when they noticed smoke coming from the upper floor, and soon after, saw flames.

While Khan was at Nigg Village, his children contacted him. Shocked by the news, he hurried back home, only to find the building already destroyed.

Despite the efforts of firefighters from the New Amsterdam Fire Station, who worked hard to control the blaze, the house was completely ruined. Khan said the family lost everything in the fire.

He added that they are willing to accept any assistance. Anyone wishing to help can contact them on telephone numbers +592679-5544 or +592604-2738.
