A Sophia woman is in police custody after prison officers allegedly found suspected cannabis hidden in a box intended for an inmate.
Tachanna Henry was arrested Wednesday morning while visiting the Georgetown Prison.
Authorities say several plastic bags containing suspected cannabis leaves, seeds and stems were discovered during a search of the box, which was reportedly intended for prisoner Kevon Alfred at Mazaruni.
Henry and the suspected narcotics were subsequently taken to the Alberttown Police Station.
Director of Prisons Nicklon Elliot has warned that smuggling contraband into prisons is a felony with serious consequences, while commending officers for their vigilance.
