He clarified that all public sector workers, including part-time employees and CSOs, will receive wage increases. He added that the PPP/C is also looking to convert part-time workers to full-time in the coming term.

Regarding sugar, Jagdeo said that the PPP/C has no plans to shut down the sugar industry, asserting it can only survive under the current government. He said more opportunities will also be created in sugar-involved communities, including alternative jobs for those involved or previously involved in the sector.

To ease financial burdens, Jagdeo announced that taxes on four-door pickups will be reduced, zero-interest loans will be made available in the next term, and housing grants will be extended, especially to Amerindian communities.

He also confirmed a statement by President Dr. Irfaan Ali that another cash grant will be distributed before the end of the year.

Dr. Jagdeo said his position is not based on arrogance but on results. He highlighted the government’s work in turning the economy around, incentivising key sectors like gold, sugar, rice, and hospitality, reducing tax burdens, and ensuring that the benefits of economic growth reach the people. These benefits include increased scholarships and higher old-age pensions.

He added that the PPP/C’s capable and experienced leadership makes it the safest choice to manage Guyana’s economy and navigate challenges such as the lowering of oil prices and the Venezuela border controversy, etc.
