An 18-year-old labourer was released on $150,000 bail on Monday after being charged with the theft of a gold chain worth $1.8 million.
Jedia Singh, of West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, appeared before Senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, where he was arraigned on a larceny charge.
It is alleged that on May 13, 2025, at West Ruimveldt, Singh stole a gold chain belonging to Rehanna Agard. Singh denied the allegation and pleaded not guilty.
Represented by Attorney-at-law Adrian Thompson, the accused maintained his innocence through his lawyer, who successfully requested bail. The prosecution did not object to bail but asked that Singh be required to report regularly to the police.
As a result, Magistrate Azore granted bail on the condition that Singh report to the Ruimveldt Police Station on the last Monday of every month. The matter has been adjourned until June 16, 2025.
