After spending more than a month on remand, 19-year-old Jadon Sim, also known as “JJ,” was granted bail recently in connection with an attempted robbery charge.

Sim, a construction worker of Lot 132 Friendship/Buxton, East Coast Demerara (ECD), is accused of attempting to rob Shurlan Critchlow, known as “Black Boy,” while armed with a gun on April 28, 2025, at the busy intersection of Camp and Quamina Streets in Georgetown.

The teen made his first court appearance on May 5, 2025, before Senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, where his initial request for bail was denied.

However, during a subsequent virtual hearing, Sim appeared before Magistrate Annette Singh with his attorney, Stacy Goodings, renewing the bail application.

Attorney Goodings urged the court to consider the amount of time her client had already spent in custody and highlighted that there were no statements filed in the prosecution’s case file, a critical omission she argued warranted bail.

The prosecution objected strongly to the request. They informed the court that Sim was allegedly part of a group that confronted and attempted to rob the virtual complainant.

According to their account, Sim fled the scene upon spotting a police van but was later apprehended and identified by the alleged victim.

Despite the prosecution’s objections, Magistrate Singh considered the circumstances, particularly the lack of evidential progress in the case.

She noted that the accused had been incarcerated for over a month and that the absence of a statement on file provided sufficient grounds for bail.

Bail was granted in the sum of $150,000, and the matter was adjourned until July 11, 2025.

Sim is expected to return to court on that date as the case continues.
