Three men were on Wednesday remanded to prison in connection with the 2023 murder of 72-year-old Kamaluddin Abrahim of Port Mourant, Corentyne Berbice.
The accused — Rajendra Balkarran, called “Gomes,” 45, a cane harvester of Rose Hall Town; Dorwin Trim, called “Rusty,” 32, an unemployed man of Free Yard, Port Mourant; and Premchand Ramsohai, 28, a labourer of Despentry Dam, Port Mourant — appeared before Magistrate Michelle Matthias at the Reliance Magistrates’ Court.
The court heard that between June 26 and July 1, 2023, at Rose Hall Town, the men allegedly murdered Abrahim. They were not required to plead to the indictable charge.
Police Prosecutor Sergeant Mark Edwards informed the court that the case file was complete. Magistrate Matthias then ordered that the men be remanded to prison. The matter was transferred to the Albion Magistrates’ Court for October 14, when disclosure is expected to begin.
According to reports, on July 1, 2023, at around 5:22 p.m., the body of Abrahim — popularly known as “the brown clothes man” — was discovered at Lot 111 Free Yard, Port Mourant. His son, Shazad Abrahim, had earlier filed a missing person’s report after being unable to contact him.
Two days later, on July 3, a fisherman stumbled upon a decomposed body in a bushy area along the Rose Hall Town foreshore. A post-mortem examination conducted the same day was inconclusive due to the advanced state of decomposition.
Following intelligence-led investigations by ranks in Region Six, police arrested the three suspects, who subsequently confessed to the crime.
