The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) reported that within the past 24 hours, its troops came under fire three times along the Cuyuni River near the Venezuelan border.
According to a GDF press release issued Thursday, armed men in civilian clothing on the Venezuelan shore opened fire on GDF soldiers conducting riverine patrols between the Eteringbang and Makapa areas.

The GDF said it returned fire with “a measured response” on each occasion and confirmed that no Guyanese ranks sustained any injuries during the clashes.
The military condemned the attacks as acts of aggression but stressed that it remains vigilant and prepared.
“The Force remains resolute in its mission to protect Guyana’s territorial integrity and ensure the safety of its citizens,” the GDF statement declared.
It added that regular patrols would continue along the Cuyuni River and assured the public that all necessary measures would be taken to safeguard the nation’s borders and maintain peace and security.
