The Guyana Police Force (GPF) has taken two men into custody in connection with the murder of a miner at Baramani Backdam, Cuyuni River, Region Seven.
The incident occurred between 12:30 hours and 2:00 hours on Saturday. The victim, identified only as Riley pending full verification, was found naked with multiple stab wounds near a mining camp. His body was discovered by a fellow miner working in the area.
Police arrested 21-year-old Rovel Santiago from Khan Hill, Mabaruma, and 20-year-old Shawn Williams of Kuru Kururu Village, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, following their admissions of involvement during questioning at the mining site.
Both suspects led investigators to the crime scene, where officers recovered key evidence, including knives believed to be the murder weapons and the victim’s blood-stained clothing.
A post-mortem examination will be conducted to confirm the exact cause of death. The suspects remain in police custody as the Bartica Police continue their investigation.
