Two Men Fatally Shot at Vigilance South; Police Launch Investigation

Police in Regional Division #4C are investigating a fatal shooting that claimed the lives of two men on Wednesday night at Vigilance South, East Coast Demerara.

The deceased have been identified as 22-year-old Cordel August, a wash bay attendant of Strathspey, East Coast Demerara, and 35-year-old Eon Headley, a self-employed resident of Vigilance South.

According to preliminary police investigations, the two men were among a group of persons gathered at a shop in the community at around 10:00 p.m. when two men dressed in black arrived on a motorcycle.

The suspects allegedly opened fire, discharging several rounds in the direction of the gathering before fleeing the scene.

Both August and Headley sustained suspected gunshot wounds and were rushed to the Enmore Regional Hospital by public-spirited citizens. However, they were pronounced dead on arrival by doctors.

Police said examinations of the bodies revealed suspected gunshot wounds. The bodies have since been transported to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where they are awaiting post-mortem examinations.

No arrests have been made as investigations into the double murder continue.
