Police are investigating an alleged double murder that occurred on Friday, August 7, 2026, at about 9:30 a.m. on Water Street, Georgetown, leaving two men dead.
The deceased have been identified as 23-year-old vendor Wreford Vincent Trim, called “Junior Browne,” of Durban Backlands, Georgetown, and 36-year-old labourer Tyrone Captain, of Eversham, Corentyne, Berbice, and Beepat Squatting Area, Sophia.
According to police, an altercation occurred involving the two deceased men and a 29-year-old salesman of Industry, East Coast Demerara.
During the altercation, both Trim and Captain sustained stab wounds.
Trim was subsequently found on Commerce Street, Georgetown, where he was pronounced dead by a doctor from the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
Captain was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation for medical attention but succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.
The 29-year-old suspect was arrested and remains in police custody.
A knife suspected to have been used in the incident was recovered and lodged by police pending examination. Investigators have also obtained CCTV footage, which forms part of the ongoing investigation.
The bodies of the deceased are awaiting post-mortem examinations.
Police investigations are ongoing.
