Two members of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) were injured – one seriously – following a collision between an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) and a motor lorry along the 19-Mile Public Road in Region One on Monday morning.
The accident occurred at about 11:15 hours and involved an ATV and a motor lorry owned by Guyana Manganese Inc. (GMI).

Sheriff News Network understands that the ATV was being driven at the time by 32-year-old Constable Michael Thomas of West Minster, West Bank Demerara (WBD), with pillion rider 21-year-old Constable Troy Williams of Liverpool Village, Corentyne, Berbice. Both men are stationed at the Baramita Police Station.
The motor lorry was driven by 28-year-old Daniel Da Silva of Citrus Grove, Port Kaituma, Region One.
Investigations revealed that the ATV was allegedly travelling at a high speed along the roadway when it descended a hill and approached the lorry, which was also descending from the opposite direction.
According to Da Silva, the ATV appeared to lose control and veer into the path of his lorry. In an attempt to avoid a head-on collision, he swerved to the left, but the ATV still collided with the right front side of his vehicle.
As a result of the impact, both policemen sustained injuries. They were picked up in a conscious condition and taken to the Port Kaituma District Hospital.
Thomas, the driver of the ATV, was treated for multiple facial fractures and a concussion to the chest. He was later medevacked to the Georgetown Public Hospital. Williams sustained minor injuries and was treated and sent away. The driver of the lorry is in police custody, assisting with investigations.
