A family from West Berbice, Region Five, is demanding a comprehensive investigation into the drowning of 30-year-old Sadain Habibullah of Kettng Street, Cotton Tree.
He set out on a fishing trip on May 5, expecting to return after four to five days. According to his father, Shanir Habibullah, they received news that Sadain had drowned at sea.

The boat returned without him, and while the crew initially provided vague information, they later claimed he fell overboard. The officers at the Blairmont Police Station were notified, but due to jurisdiction, the case was passed to Region Six authorities.
A search party was organised, but only two people could accompany police officers on the expedition, leading to frustrations about the search efforts.

“The captain was driving the police boat now. He started the engine to go out, then the CID that was in charge of the matter said, ‘Cut off the engine.’ So, when he cut off the engine, he said, ‘Old boy, you come out and let the boat owner come in. So, I said, how’s that? He said, ‘You come out on the boat and let the man come in.’ So, I got on the police boat and I walked out. So, before they were ready to drive off, the boat owner said, ’When we come back, I done tell you what’s going on.’ Up to today, nobody has ever come to see me or called,” he related.
Sadain’s body was discovered on the foreshore of the East Coast of Demerara on May 11. An autopsy was conducted on the body on May 13, confirming drowning as the cause of death.
The father expressed dissatisfaction with the police investigation and is urging a thorough probe into the circumstances of his son’s death.
