City businessman Marlan DaSilva remains in prison as the court continues preparations for a Paper Committal (PC) into the fatal shooting of his partner, 27-year-old Kenesha Vaughn.
The matter was most recently called on May 12, 2025, before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Diamond/Golden Grove Magistrates’ Courts. During the brief hearing, the prosecution served additional statements on the defence team.
As a result, the matter was adjourned to May 22, 2025, for continuation. Previously, the court had been informed that while some witness statements were already disclosed, the full set of documents remained outstanding.
The PC will determine whether there is sufficient evidence for the matter to proceed to trial at the High Court before a judge and jury. Once all necessary statements and exhibits are submitted, the court will begin hearing testimonies from witnesses.
DaSilva, 32, is accused of murdering Vaughn on February 22, 2025, at their home in the Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD). According to police reports, DaSilva had been out socialising with friends when Vaughn reportedly called and asked him to return home.
This allegedly led to an argument upon his arrival. During the altercation, DaSilva allegedly slapped Vaughn, who then reportedly reached for a knife.
He responded by drawing his licensed firearm and firing several shots at her. Vaughn collapsed and was later pronounced dead at the Diamond Diagnostic Centre. The incident was reportedly captured on CCTV, and the footage is expected to be submitted as part of the evidence.
DaSilva was arrested and charged with murder following legal advice from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). Vaughn and DaSilva share a young son together.
