Karran Sukhan, a 25-year-old businessman from Lot 143 Number 2 Village, East Canje, Berbice, who was remanded for allegedly abusing his 20-year-old partner, Jonna Ramator, has now been granted bail.

Sukhan made another appearance on Monday before Magistrate Michelle Matthias in the New Amsterdam Magistrates’ Court. He was granted bail totalling $110,000 – $30,000 each for threatening language and threatening behaviour, and $50,000 for assault causing actual bodily harm.

As conditions of bail, Sukhan is required to surrender his passport, maintain a distance of 50 feet from Ramator, and report weekly to the Mibicuri Police Station every Friday.

Ramator had publicly detailed her harrowing experience in a Facebook post, revealing that the relationship with Sukhan, which began in October 2018, quickly escalated into violence by 2019. She described being kicked in the stomach, having her head stomped on, and suffering repeated beatings, including assaults while holding their newborn child.

After she announced her intention to leave Sukhan, he allegedly attacked her with a knife and cutlass, threatening both her and their children. Despite filing multiple police reports, Ramator said she received little assistance and recalled insensitive remarks from law enforcement.

Following her Facebook post, an investigation was launched, leading to Sukhan’s arrest in Region Five and subsequent court appearance. He is scheduled to return to court on July 21, 2025.
