Devon Boucher was formally arraigned on Monday before Justice Simone Morris at the Demerara High Court for the 2021 murder of his neighbour, 30-year-old Clifton Bhagwandat.

The alleged motive behind the killing was a dispute over Bhagwandat’s refusal to sell Boucher a pack of cigarettes. The incident reportedly occurred on February 25, 2021, at Chateau Margot Squatting Dam on the East Coast of Demerara.

Boucher, 29, has since been charged with murder and pleaded not guilty during his court appearance. As he did not have legal representation, the State appointed an attorney to act on his behalf. His trial commenced on July 2, 2025.

Prosecutor Taneisha Saygon is leading the State’s case. Attorney Ronald Bostwick has been assigned to represent the accused.
