The Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has wrapped up a productive round of talks at the ICAO Air Services Negotiation Event (ICAN 2025) in Punta Cana, securing six new Air Services Agreements aimed at boosting air connectivity between Guyana, Africa and Latin America.

The agreements, inked with Panama, St. Maarten, Uganda, Ecuador, Liberia, and Kenya, give airlines the legal clearance to expand routes, strengthen trade links, and support economic growth. With these additions, Guyana now has more than sixty bilateral and multilateral air services arrangements in place.

The GCAA said the new deals are expected to spark interest from carriers in those states to consider flying to Guyana, strengthening efforts to position the Cheddi Jagan International Airport as a regional hub. Minister of Public Utilities and Aviation, Deodat Indar, welcomed the signings, noting that the country’s aviation expansion hinges on securing such partnerships as Guyana pushes toward broader global connectivity.

On the sidelines of the event, the Authority also signed technical cooperation MOUs with Cabo Verde and the Dominican Republic. Though non-binding, they lay the groundwork for collaboration in safety, regulatory oversight, training, system development and overall modernisation of aviation operations.

Guyana has also opened negotiations with France to update the 1974 Air Services Agreement and has begun talks toward establishing a similar arrangement with Austria.
