Senior Minister in the Office of the President with responsibility for Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh, has confirmed that work is already underway on the preparation of the next National Budget, with ministries and government agencies having submitted their proposals in keeping with the administration’s five-year development agenda.
Speaking on the government’s approach, Dr. Singh said the administration continues to benefit from continuity, having previously served in office and maintained a predictable policy environment for the Guyanese people. “We are a government that has the advantage of continuity as well, having been in office in the previous term and having been in office previously in previous terms,” he stated.
He added that predictability remains a defining feature of the administration’s governance style. “Happily also, we are a government and a party who have always prided ourselves on predictability of the policy environment in which we operate and predictability in the policy environment that we present to the Guyanese people,” Dr. Singh said.
The Minister reiterated that the administration entered the September 2025 elections with a clear and comprehensive plan for the next five years. “We went to the electorate with a very comprehensive agenda for the next five years. That comprehensive agenda was reflected in our manifesto, which addressed both the overarching framework and vision, the bold and exciting vision of our president and the leadership of our party and leadership of our government,” he explained.
Dr. Singh emphasised that the government has been “hitting the ground running,” engaging with key sectors, communities, and regions to ensure that national priorities are properly reflected. “We’ve been working from day one, engaging with various sectors, engaging with various communities, continuing to hear from them what are the things that are most important to them,” he said.
Confirming that the budget process has already advanced, Dr. Singh noted that government agencies have completed their initial work. “Work has certainly already started on budget preparation. The various ministries and government agencies have already prepared their respective budget submissions,” he disclosed.
Those submissions, he added, expand on the commitments outlined during the election campaign. “Those budget submissions, as you can imagine, flesh out in greater detail the commitments that would have been given in the manifesto. They develop further and flesh out in greater detail, like I said, the various commitments,” the Minister stated.
