Three Region Six men to face High Court trial for 2020 murder of pensioner
Three men from Region Six have been committed to stand trial in the Berbice High Court for the 2020 murder of 82-year-old Chandarie Budhoo. Dhannyram Ramdhanny, Kumar Bhagwandin, and Narvindra Chillu appeared before Justice Sandil Kissoon on Monday, where a 12-member jury was empanelled to hear the case.
The men, who are accused of killing the Corentyne pensioner during a robbery at her Tain Settlement home between June 16 and 17, 2020, all pleaded not guilty when called upon to answer the charge.
The trial is scheduled to start on December 8 and is expected to move quickly. The prosecution, led by Cicela Corbin, plans to call eight police officers and three residents as witnesses. Attorney Kevin Morgan is representing the accused.
Justice Kissoon indicated that the matter should conclude within a short period once evidence is presented.
