The Government of Guyana has extended its Safe Road Intelligent System (SRIS) across the entire Essequibo Islands – West Demerara district, activating more radar speed signs and automated cameras to strengthen traffic enforcement in Region Three.

The initiative, jointly managed by the National Data Management Authority and the Guyana Police Force, targets major intersections, busy roadways, and areas known for serious accidents. The system detects speeding vehicles and automatically issues tickets using a secure digital platform. Motorists registered with the Guyana Revenue Authority will receive notifications by text or email, while physical tickets will be mailed to those without digital contact details.

Authorities are urging drivers to slow down, pay attention to the new radar signs, and follow posted speed limits as enforcement increases across the region. Motorists can check their ticket status online and are encouraged to settle fines quickly to avoid legal action. Those who fail to respond to court summons for unpaid violations risk an arrest warrant and further penalties.

Government has stressed that the effort is focused on saving lives and changing reckless driving habits, not on revenue collection. The expansion marks another phase in the push for technology-driven road safety, with the aim of reducing collisions and creating safer roads for all Guyanese.
