‘Spooney’ walks free after not guilty verdict in Trion Parks murder trial

Bevon Griffith, known as “Spooney,” was on Friday acquitted of the 2023 murder of vendor Trion Parks after a jury returned a unanimous not guilty verdict following several hours of deliberations at the Demerara High Court.

Griffith had been on trial before Justice Sandil Kissoon on an indictment alleging that he murdered Parks in the course or furtherance of a robbery on November 18, 2023, at Eccles, East Bank Demerara (EBD).

Before the case was handed over to the jury, Justice Kissoon spent Friday morning summing up the evidence presented during the trial and outlining the applicable law for jurors’ consideration.

The jury then retired to deliberate and, after several hours, returned with a verdict acquitting Griffith of the charge.

Griffith was represented by attorney-at-law Tonza Sarrabo, while the prosecution was led by State attorneys Christopher Belfield, Rubina Christmas and Rodley Mathoo.Parks, a 36-year-old vendor, died after being shot multiple times during the incident at his Eccles residence on November 18, 2023.

With the jury’s verdict, Griffith was formally discharged, bringing the criminal proceedings against him to an end.
