GO-Invest facilitates $1.06T in private investments over six years

Guyana has recorded approximately $1.06 trillion in private investments through 189 new, expansionary and mixed projects and agreements facilitated by the Guyana Office for Investment (GO-Invest) over the past six years.

Chief Investment Officer Dr Peter Ramsaroop said foreign investors accounted for approximately 73 per cent of the recorded investment, while local investors contributed about 20 per cent.

However, Guyanese investors accounted for approximately 49 per cent of the employment linked to those investments, highlighting the significant role local businesses continue to play in the economy.

Investment has also spread across several sectors, including mining, tourism, agriculture, energy, Information and Communications Technology (ICT), forestry and services.

“The most important story is not simply the amount of capital entering Guyana; it is the broadening and deepening of investor confidence in the Guyanese economy,” Ramsaroop said.

Joint ventures accounted for approximately $72 billion, while diaspora investments totalled about $2.9 billion. Investments from CARICOM countries, including Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados, have also been increasing.

Meanwhile, Bank of Guyana figures show gross Foreign Direct Investment inflows of approximately US$10.4 billion in 2024 and US$8.43 billion in 2025, largely linked to the oil and gas sector.

Private-sector credit also increased from approximately $259.8 billion in 2020 to $531.8 billion at the end of 2025.

GO-Invest is now looking to build on the investment activity by encouraging more joint ventures, technology transfer, value-added production and export-oriented businesses.

The agency has also assisted approximately 137 Guyanese companies in entering export markets over the past four years and connected 112 businesses with overseas buyers.
