GGMC withdraws mediation effort in Chinese Landing, Wayne Vieira matter

The Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) has withdrawn its mediation effort involving Chinese Landing and Wayne Vieira, saying developments have overtaken the initiative.

GGMC Commissioner Newell Dennison informed Chinese Landing Toshao Nikita Miller of the decision in a letter dated September 7, 2026.

The mediation effort had been initiated by the Commission following an initiative by the Ministry of Natural Resources after the National Toshaos Council Conference.

Dennison, in the letter, acknowledged receiving correspondence from Miller dated August 26, as well as an August 21 communication she had sent to Minister of Natural Resources Vickram Bharrat.

“In the circumstances, I regret that the initiative for a mediated solution between the parties appears to have been overtaken by developments and circumstances affecting both sides,” Dennison stated.

As a result, the Commissioner said the GGMC was withdrawing from the mediation process.

“Accordingly, I wish to advise that I am withdrawing the mediation effort initiated by the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC), pursuant to the Ministry of Natural Resources’ initiative following the National Toshaos Council Conference,” the letter stated.

Dennison advised Miller that Chinese Landing remains free to pursue legal options it considers appropriate in relation to the matter involving the community and Vieira.
