Another 210 houses are under construction at Palmyra, Region Six, adding to 100 already completed as the Ministry of Housing expands the scheme.
Housing Minister Collin Croal said the ongoing works include 100 three-bedroom bungalow-roof houses, priced at $13 million each, and 110 young professional houses costing $19.5 million each.
The bungalow houses are targeted for completion by February 2027. Eighteen Berbice-based contractors are engaged in this phase, providing employment for local builders.
According to Croal, the young professional houses are being offered at construction cost. Persons who already have housing applications in the system and are interested in these units can contact the Ministry’s Region Six office to register their interest.
Meanwhile, beneficiaries of the first 100 completed houses can apply to the Guyana Power and Light company for electricity connections once they have obtained their electrical certificates.
Plans are also underway to drill an independent well to meet the growing demand for water in Palmyra as the development expands.
Croal said a subsequent phase will include two-bedroom houses, following increased demand for that housing option.11:58
