Cuban national remanded over brutal murder of stepdaughter

Wispriey Alfonso, the 40-year-old Cuban national, who allegedly murdered his 21-year-old stepdaughter, has been charged and remanded to prison.

Alfonso was hauled before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and was not required to plead to the capital offence.

The charge stems from an attack on May 23 at a Pike Street, Kitty apartment, where Alfonso is accused of violently chopping both his stepdaughter, Davely Morales, and her mother, Milaysi Rodrigues.

Morales succumbed to her injuries, while Rodrigues remains in critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).

During the brief court appearance, the prosecution disclosed that the investigation is still active, with a particular focus on monitoring Rodrigues’ medical condition.

Magistrate McGusty remanded Alfonso to prison until July 9, when the matter is set for report and disclosure.

Authorities had reported that the 40-year-old Cuban national carried out the incident with a chopper.

Alfonso fled the scene but later surrendered at the Kitty Police Station with the blood-stained weapon still in his possession.
