President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali says Guyana’s rapid economic rise has placed the country at a critical point where the true measure of progress will be determined by how national wealth benefits its people.S
Speaking during a recent service, the Head of State said Guyana is now in a new stage of development that demands responsibility, fairness and collective maturity.
“Today we stand in a new transitional phase shaped by extraordinary wealth and rapid economic growth,” President Ali said.
While noting the country’s expanding economy and infrastructure, the President stressed that development cannot be judged solely by financial growth, but by the impact it has on citizens’ lives across the country.
He said Guyana is being challenged to decide how it will use its growing prosperity and whether that wealth can create opportunities for all Guyanese.
“Maybe, just maybe, this period is another test of ours to see how we take care of it, how we use it, how humble we are with it,” the President stated.
According to Dr Ali, the country’s current transformation must be guided by inclusion, justice and equal opportunity.
“Can we transform wealth into opportunity for all?” he questioned, while asserting that the answer must be rooted in national unity and shared progress.
The President also reflected on Guyana’s historical journey, saying the nation has already moved through periods of colonialism, political independence and nation-building, and is now entering a phase centred on economic and human development.
He warned that economic success alone will not define the country’s future, noting that national progress must also be measured by dignity, fairness and quality of life.
“The true challenge before Guyana is therefore not merely economic expansion, but national maturity,” President Ali said.
He expressed confidence that Guyana can successfully navigate this period of change if citizens remain committed to working together in the interest of national development.
