Persons applying for Guyanese passports will no longer be able to walk into immigration offices for passport services from October 1, 2026, as the authorities move to a new online appointment-based system.
Senior Superintendent of Police and Deputy Chief Immigration Officer Stephen Telford said all passport applications will, from that date, be processed through the online application appointment system.
“From the 1st of October 2026, we will now be accepting applications for passport only via the online application appointment system,” Telford said.
He explained that walk-in applicants will no longer be accommodated at passport offices, with members of the public required to secure an appointment before visiting an immigration office or Government Service Centre.
Under the new system, applicants will be able to select the passport office or Government Service Centre where they wish to complete their application, as well as choose a date and time that is convenient to them.
Telford said the appointment system is intended to give applicants greater flexibility while allowing immigration officials to better manage the passport application process.
“So, you will now only be dealt with by an appointment,” he said.
Applicants can make appointments through the official online platform at pp.gpf.gov.gy.
Telford, however, urged members of the public to exercise caution when accessing the system, warning that fraudulent websites or links could be circulating online.
“I would just want to alert you on the use of the online application platform. It is pp.gpf.gov.gy, and please be careful when using the URL, as there may be fake ones placed out there,” he said.
He encouraged applicants to use only the designated platform, complete their applications and secure an appointment before visiting an immigration location.
“I would want to take this opportunity to encourage you to ensure you go, apply, make your appointment, and you come, and then we will serve you.”
The new arrangement will apply countrywide and is expected to affect all persons seeking passport services from October 1.
Members of the public are being encouraged to familiarise themselves with the online appointment system ahead of its implementation to avoid delays or difficulties when seeking passport services.
Guyana currently issues passports with five-year and 10-year validity periods.
