Guyana Power and Light Inc. (GPL) has erected approximately 85 per cent of the monopole structures for its new 69-kilovolt transmission line between Goedverwagting and Good Hope, East Coast Demerara.
The line will replace those running along the Railway Embankment and is intended to improve the transfer of electricity across the network while supporting growing demand along the East Coast.
In an October 26 release, GPL said Director Ryan Ross recently joined representatives of the utility and contractor PowerChina International to inspect the ongoing works and assess progress.
According to the company, the new line will strengthen the national grid and provide greater flexibility to manage electricity flows during maintenance and network disturbances. It is also expected to improve the reliability and resilience of electricity service.
The additional transmission infrastructure will support continued residential, commercial and industrial development along the East Coast, GPL stated.
The company described the project as part of its wider efforts to expand and modernise Guyana’s electricity infrastructure.
