The driver of a motor car involved in a fatal accident at Auchlyne Public Road, Corentyne, has been arrested and remains in police custody as investigations continue into the death of his 24-year-old passenger.
Richard Gobin, 25, of Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, was arrested following the September 14 accident, which claimed the life of Reanna Ramkisson of Letter Kenny Village, Corentyne, one week later.
According to information received, Gobin was driving motor car PYY 6384 west along the southern drive lane of Auchlyne Public Road at around 10:22 p.m. when a donkey reportedly ran from south to north into the path of the vehicle.
Gobin reportedly swerved to the right in an attempt to avoid the animal but lost control of the car, which subsequently ended up in a trench on the northern side of the road.
Ramkisson, who was seated in the front passenger seat, became trapped inside the vehicle and sustained injuries about her body.
With the assistance of public-spirited citizens, she was removed from the vehicle and taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where she was treated for fluid in her lungs and kept under observation.
She was discharged at around 11:00 a.m. on September 15 but was later readmitted to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital after complaining of feeling unwell.
Ramkisson was subsequently admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, where her condition was initially described as stable.
However, she succumbed to her injuries on Monday, September 21.
Police were alerted to the accident and ranks visited the scene. Following Ramkisson’s death, Gobin was arrested and remains in custody as investigators continue questioning him about the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
